AcrySof® ReSTOR® Intraocular Lens
AcrySof® ReSTOR® Intraocular Lens can eliminate corrective lenses for many cataract patients and a full range of vision is a likely outcome!
Lindenhurst Eye Physicians & Surgeons are leaders in advanced eye surgery technology and procedures and now offer AcrySof® ReSTOR® Intraocular Lens for cataract sufferers. Recently approved by the FDA, this new lens enables most patients the pleasure of near, intermediate and distance vision without glasses after cataract surgery.
Prior to the development of AcrySof® ReSTOR®, intraocular lenses were of two basic types: Monofocal, which typically required reading glasses or bifocals after surgery, and Accommodating, which rely upon the action of the eye muscles to focus.
The AcrySof® ReSTOR®, intraocular lens uses "Apodized Diffractive Optics", a lens configuration that enables specific distribution of light in response to how wide or small the eye's pupil may be. The advantage of ADO is that the ability to focus is not reliant upon the action of the eye muscles. In addition, as of May 2005, MEDICARE now allows patients to choose an intraocular lens that corrects for presbyopia for an additional fee, which may save Medicare recipients' future costs for eyeglasses.
"I wouldn't be at all surprised if the AcrySof® ReSTOR® Intraocular Lens becomes the standard implant for cataract surgery."
Medical Director Dr. Richard Nattis, M.D.,FAAO said "Many patients are amazed at the results. After years and years of declining vision and increasingly strong eyeglass prescriptions, they are suddenly without corrective lenses and take great delight in their new found freedom. Most cataract patients are over 50 years of age and engage in a wide range of activities. From needlework to astronomy and athletic activities, good vision is a big plus, but for everyday activities such as driving, shopping and reading, it's a necessity. It's very rewarding to have them back doing what they want and need to do"
The AcrySof® ReSTOR® Intraocular Lens, developed and manufactured by Alcon® Inc. (NYSE:ACL) is for cataract patients with and without presbyopia. Presbyopia is a condition where the lens losses elasticity and diminishes the ability to change focus and see objects at distances near to far. It usually becomes apparent in persons in their mid-forties. For those approaching 50 years of age, it is very important to be alert to changes in vision, have regular eye exams and to immediately let their eye doctor know about blurring, tearing, headaches, floaters and flashing.
Dr. Nattis also said "I wouldn't be at all surprised if the AcrySof® ReSTOR® Intraocular Lens becomes the standard implant for cataract surgery. The results are far in advance of what has been available to date. The difference is comparable to that of a an old vinyl record and a compact disk."
