Over the last 73 years healthcare has changed and will continue to change over time. Dr. Nudelman recently uncovered this 1940s-vintage correspondence from ophthalmological surgeon, Dr. Ramon Castroviejo, to a patient's husband discussing the patient's suitability for a corneal transplant. Of special note is the cost of the hospital expenses which vary from $6.00 to $20.00 per day depending on the type of room chosen (one presumes, the $20 room is part of the "deluxe" package). Dr. Nudelman has donated this piece of medical history to the Museum of Vision in San Francisco, CA.
